Barbecue for solidarity between the Stëmm vun der Strooss and the Order of Malta Luxembourg

On Sunday, September 19, a special day was organized in Esch-sur-Alzette for people in need. The event called “Barbecue de la Solidarité” and co-organised by Stëmm vun der Stroos and the Order of Malta in Luxemburg served more than 180 meals.
On the initiative of Jessy Morbe, Chairman of the Order of Malta’s Board, the foodtruck LëtzeBurger was rented and set up at 21, Rue de l’Eglise. The same address as the new Stëmm vun der Strooss social restaurant. The tasty burgers were so successful that they sold-out earlier than expected. The manager of the Stëmm vun der Strooss in Esch-sur-Alzette Franco Settanni and his cook had to improvise so that every client could have lunch. The both of them decided to cook 30kg of Chili con carne as well as grilled meat. The good weather impacted positively the number of clients. One can also to add that the rising of poverty and a lack of social facilities opened during the weekends are also part of the success of the event.
The charity event did not stop at a barbecue only. A flea market for school essentials was also organized by volunteers in the premises of the Stëmm vun der Strooss. With the new school year starting, many families were able to take advantage of the market to stock up on school equipment such as folders, school bags and other items which can weigh heavily on families’ budget.
The Stëmm vun der Strooss is honoured to have been able to count on the presence of the auxiliary bishop Mr. Leo Wagener, the vicar general Mr. Patrick Muller, the parish priest of Esch-sur-Alzette Mr. Monteiro Riccardo, members of the Verbum Spei asbl fraternity and the vice-president of the association Mr. André Theisen.
Franco Settanni is happy with how the event turned out. He says: “I’m really happy. We put a smile on people’s faces; the sun was out and bright. I want to thank from the bottom of my heart Jessy Morbé and the Order of Malta in Luxemburg. I’m also proud to announce that we are already discussing future collaborations. I would also like to thank all our volunteers for their great solidarity, without which such an event would not be possible”.
