Auchan gift cards and sleeping bags for the non-profit organisation Stëmm vun der Strooss

“Because we have been supporting the Stëmm vun der Strooss for nearly 10 years, this donation represents our desire to continue working together,” said Véronique Braunert and Magali Maillot, representatives of Allen & Overy, who offered Auchan gift cards worth €2,000, sleeping bags and underwear to the association’s director, Alexandra Oxacelay.

In this winter period, sleeping bags and underwear are very much in demand and therefore go free of charge in the changing rooms of Esch-sur-Alzette and Hollerich.

As Alexandra Oxacelay explained: “Depending on the needs of each person, the underprivileged people working in the Caddy service in Bonnevoie were able, thanks to the donation of gift cards, to freely benefit from hygiene products, telephone refills, underwear and clothing. In addition, when certain dry products were missing from the “dispatching de denrées alimentaires” department’s shelves, they were purchased immediately, thus guaranteeing each customer well-filled food parcels.”

In 2020, 84 tons of foodstuffs close to the expiration date were recovered by Stëmm vun der Strooss thanks to the partnership with the Auchan hypermarket. The 20 people employed continuously as part of a professional reintegration measure sorted them and redistributed them at no cost, not only within the social restaurants of Hollerich and Esch-sur-Alzette, but also to the benefit of 10 low-threshold services, active in the territory of the City of Luxembourg. By 2023, the association intends to increase to 500 tons of reworked foodstuffs and create 40 additional jobs. It will thus contribute to the combat against poverty, unemployment and food waste.
