Press release: Auchan is again committed to the Stëmm vun der Strooss

For many years, Auchan Luxembourg and the Stëmm vun der Strooss have worked hand in hand to support disadvantaged people. Thanks to the Auchan, the Stëmm processes 125 tons of food a year, provided free of charge by Auchan, to prepare dishes, soups, fruit juices, sandwiches and much more. The food is served in the Stëmm’s social restaurants in Hollerich and Esch-sur-Alzette. Some of the food is also distributed to third party organisations in Luxembourg.

From September 20 to October 2, Auchan organised a collection campaign at its sales points in Kirchberg, Cloche d’Or and Differdange. Customers had the opportunity to buy additional products to their purchase and put them in designated trolleys at the checkout, which in turn will be distributed to the Stëmm beneficiaries. Customers could choose between hygiene products such as deodorant, shower gel, toothbrushes and other hygiene items useful for the association. In addition, non-perishable food items such as rice, pasta and drinks were donated, which the Stëmm will use to supply its social restaurants.

Thanks to the excellent communication of Auchan Luxembourg, a total of 813.5 kg were collected, of which 628.5 kg of food and 128 kg of hygiene items. These high numbers show how open-minded and in solidarity society is for such actions. The whole team from Caddy workshop would like to thank everyone who participated in this project. The team is proud to work with Auchan in the fight against food waste and this for many years.

It should be noted that this partnership will be further developed once the new Caddy 2 project in Sanem is up and running. This new building will enable the Stëmm to recycle 500 tonnes of food that would otherwise have ended up in the rubbish. The funding phase is still ongoing and the Stëmm vun der Strooss is reaching out to all donors who might be interested in this social, environmental and economic project.
