Press release: 10,000 from the Kichechef for the Stëmm of Ettelbruck

Kichechef, the largest furniture store in Luxembourg, is making a significant contribution to the renovation work of the social restaurant of the Stëmm vun der Strooss in Ettelbruck.

On Wednesday 24 January 2023, Kichechef presented a generous cheque for €10,000 to Marcel Detaille, President of the charity, and its Director Alexandra Oxacelay. The official donation handover took place at the shop in 69, Parc d’Activités Capellen. This impressive sum comes from several charity events organised during the winter months of 2022.

For example, on 26 November 2022, Kichechef had organised a solidarity march called “Home Sweet Home – Santa Run”. Covering a distance of 5 km, the shop’s 250 employees, who had been invited to participate with their families and/or friends, ran for the benefit of Stëmm. For each person registered, Kichechef donated €10 to asbl.

At the same time, Kichechef offered the association’s volunteers the opportunity to serve grilled food and drinks, to increase revenue.

But the organisers’ creativity did not stop there, as Home Sweet Home candles were on sale at the shop’s cash registers from 27 November to 24 December.  Part of the amount raised was the result of a fundraising appeal on the retailer’s social networks, and eventually the management rounded up to the generous sum of €10,000.

This financial support will be invested in the renovation of the new social restaurant at 47, rue Prince Henri in Ettelbruck. The facility, which will be open for needy people from the north of the country, is scheduled to open in early February.

Alexandra Oxacelay explained that the Stëmm vun der Strooss has already been present in Ettelbruck since March last year, serving meals in a car park opposite the station. Since then, there have been a total of 6759 meals served with a daily average of 50 people as of September 2022.

All these initiatives are part of the company’s CSR policy and its slogan since 2019: “Home Sweet Home”. So it goes directly to the people who are poorly housed or not housed at all and who you want to help directly. This is the second time that the Stëmm has been supported by the Kichechef, but this time it was a novelty, as the entire staff was asked to help and participate.
